Weekly Review 01/11/18 – 11/11/18

I’ve been away from social media for almost 2whole weeks! It was lovely, we went away on holiday to north wales which was amazing. I’ve had a little break from art and social media. Not that I haven’t been doing any art, just that I haven’t been bothered to photo it. I guess if it’s not on social media it never happened…. right?

The only pic I took with my phone while away in north wales. What a little beauty! I love the colours, they way he’s gripping the reeds, they seem to just float peacefully. Even with several stinky humans pressing there fat faces on the glass.

I’m working on a couple of commission pieces, which I’ll be able to show you after Christmas. To say they have challenged me would be a massive understatement! I still struggle with people!

I can show you a few other works in progress though. Some chipmunk coasters I am working on.

Yes, I have used a stencil with these ones. It’s hard enough trying to get them all in the right position. Do I feel like a cheat. Hell no. You know why? Because I still have to hand paint each little dude individually. I need to place the leaves by hand. This just makes it easier for me to do these little beauties justice. Do I care what anyone else thinks? Nope.

I love purple, and gold, and Christmas. For our Christmas tree we have mostly purple and gold baubles and tinsel, and I bought this little beauty from Katie and K8tieSparkles on Etsy. I can not wait to put it on my tree!

I have also created a “Colour your own” Christmas card this year. My kids are loving it.

One year Anniversary – where on earth has the time gone?u

I have now been an Artist for just over a year. I am shocked at how far I’ve come in one short year. I’ve made so much progress and I’ve been able to address some of my confidence issues.

Above is one of my very first sketches……. 🙈🙈

As an artist you are forever being judged. So many people think you don’t actually “work” and that it must be easy to throw some paint on a canvas. There will always be someone sniggering behind your back, sometimes even to your face. But you know what the best thing I’ve learnt this year is? Is not to care or listen to the armchair critics. The quicker you learn to ignore the ‘know-it-alls’ the better off you are going to be.

Above is a short video a start of a puffin sketch. It turned out really nice. It just shows a little bit of effort every day over time is totally worth it.

I have enjoyed so much about the last year. I’ve loved that many people love my art and that lots of my pieces (prints and originals) are making lots of people happy. I’ve loved learning new skills and learning how to perfect certain techniques. I’ve even enjoyed finding myself lost and not sure how to move a piece forward. I have also enjoyed being able to put those pieces down, move to something new and then coming back to the old piece and knowing exactly where to go.

Learning that I don’t have to force myself to be creative and enjoying the fact that some of my better pieces were created when I threw the rule book out the window.

I learnt to TRUST myself. Trust that I am actually good at this. It’s wonderful that after many years, several different jobs and career choices that I have finally found something I love. And yet I still have SO much farther to go. The road may seem never ending, but holy moly I am going to enjoy strolling off down the winding dirt path with the fairies.

Keep up with my progress and all my new pieces for this next year by following me on Instagram and Facebook. If you would like to see what original pieces and prints I have on sale at the moment check out my Etsy Store or my Redbubble Site.

Day 26 – 30 Days of Art

We have more lip practice today. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come. No matter how far I still have to go. I am really loving Graphite. It gets a little messy but I love it. For the next 4 days of my 30 Day Art Challenge I will be producing 2 pieces. One Acrylic Landscape of Stretched Canvas and one Family Graphite Portrait. I’m really excited to see how they come out.

If you would like to see all of my the pieces that I have created, go to my etsy shop – https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ChrissyTurleyArtist

Day 19 – 30 Days of Art

I get so much inspiration from my lovely kids. They are such a joy to be around. This is my little princess. Again I have lots to work on but I’m getting there! I think I have the proportions right, I just need to refine my skills using graphite. It’s a little clumsy.

The below painting is an autumn tree that I painted a little while ago. I love autumn, it’s my favourite season.

This painting and many more are available in my Etsy Store.

Day 18 – 30 Days of Art

So for Day 18 I’ve done yet more faces. The scribble face is not everyone’s cup of tea, but it is to help loosen up and reduce the need for an eraser. I enjoyed drawing it and trying not to lift my pencil off the paper. I’m now ready to start drawing from pictures. The second face is another face from my imagination.

A poppy I painted a while ago. This and many other paintings and prints are in my Etsy Store. Go check them out!!

Day 17 – 30 Days to Art

EYES EYES EYES!!!!!! It’s all about the eyes! I love these drawings, I think I’ve done a great job and I can’t wait to put them into some sketches. I took some advice from an Art teacher friend of mine and have started drawing each different component of the face. Noses were first and now eyes. I need to work on my hair and my lips as well.

Day 16 – 30 Days of Art

Day 16 is all about faces!!! I’ve watched a few you tube videos by the Art Sherpa and now I’m ready to rock. So the first 2 sketches are only average but I love my first finished face painting. I also like the words that go with it. I do need to believe in myself more, I have to have faith that I can do this.

The below picture is where I’m at with my kids portrait. I’ve got a long way to go but I’m happy with the progress so far! My painting is coming along nicely and so is my drawing with graphite. I’m very pleased with my progress thus far.
