Day 9 – 30 Days of Art

So today I was a little over the place. I couldn’t nail down a theme so I just did a little of everything. A fairy, because I love fairies. Who doesn’t love a pretty fairy? I used water colours to do the wings. It took me a long time to do the face……. my weakest skill… or lack of! My beautiful son, sketched with a 2b pencil. I think the drawing is ok, lots to work on but does actually look a bit like him which is a bonus!

And the northern lights landscape also done in watercolour pencils. They didn’t quite do what I had in my head but I’m starting to get used to using the watercolour pencils. I would love to go and see the northern lights, it’s on my really large list of things and places I want to see and do!

Day 6 – 30 Days of Art

I decided to sketch a few every day items today and use my favourite colour combo again for a little painting. I’m working on depth, and shading with these pictures. Items in every day life can sometimes be boring but when you try to draw them in real life it’s actually quite difficult. If I’m ever stuck for something to draw I look to what’s around me. There’s always something to draw in the house!

The girl is out of the Next catalogue I just happened to be flicking through during the day. I really loved the back ground and decided to do it in watercolour pencils. Fabric is really hard to do, so I really enjoyed doing the girls dress. Again I’m working on shading and also trying to get the proportions right, which is the hardest thing for me to figure out.

Day 5 – 30 Days of Art

My journal is becoming more of a brain dump for my ideas as well as sparking creative flow. I’ve now not only got lists of what I would like to improve on but also what I want to try and a few ideas I could really get into! I’m not used to drawing buildings, I would normally lean to landscapes so improving in that aspect of my art I think will be of great help to me. As I’m trying to broaden my knowledge I’m finding more and more websites and artists that I enjoy watching/reading about.

I really love the colour combination of Orange, Blue and White. It’s turning into a hot favourite of mine. Since my focus is becoming better at painting and drawing people, the colour combos are proving to be useful. As of yet I haven’t seen much of an improvement in people, in fact they still infuriate me 😂! But I’m hopeful you tube can help.

Day 4 – Art Journal Entries

The beach. Oh, how I love it. The sound of the waves, dogs being walked, kids having fun. It’s one of my favourite places to be.

Saundersfoot beach has a special place in our families hearts. It’s so peaceful and pretty. We go to the same hotel every time we go. We enjoy the long walks and the fact that it’s not too touristy…..yet.

For the top left Canvas I used acrylic paint and used only the 3 colours Orange, Blue and White to create the whole piece. It is part of my 3 Colour Challenge Series where I limit my paintings to use only 3 colours. Having to mix colours and create new tones and shades using only 3 colours can really test an Artist.

The purchase either of the two top peices of art or see any of my works you can visit my etsy store at https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ChrissyTurleyArtist

Day 3 – 30. Day art journal

Isabelle’s eyes! This kid of mine is just amazing. She’s sweet and kind and clever. And her eyes just as amazing. So, I’m not great at faces. I do need to work on them – a lot! I’m breaking them down to components and then I’ll try to put them all together.

Here are my angels eyes, not perfectly done but I don’t think it’s a bad go. I especially love the purple eye were I have only used red, blue and white Acrylic paint to produce this. I am fascinated with only using 3 colours to create a painting.

Day 2 – 30 Days of Art

So today I decided that I need to make a little bit of a plan so I didn’t run out of ideas! I practiced a little bit of lettering and did a little bit of a sketch of my while sitting at the table.

I think when doing something like this you need to be able to look at your own work and assess it. There’s no point just doing the same thing thinking you don’t need to improve. You need to be able to critisize your own work. Then you need to make sure you don’t beat yourself up too much. Learning a new skill takes time, it takes patience and it takes confidence.
