Day 13 – 30 Days of Art.

So I’m nearly at the half way mark. I am starting to see some improvement in proportions and being able to use my eraser a little less than usual. I’ve still got lots to work on.

I love insects. The colours and the way their bodies are shaped are really interesting. I’ve started looking at a few different types just to get a feel for how they work. I’m using reference photos from Pinterest for my practice sketches. However for the art that I sell I use my own photos or what is in my head. I have been looking at some of the free image sites and I’ll start using those soon.

My other half loves cars so I started practicing All ready for sports day! It’s those. I am hoping to draw something cool for his birthday which is coming up very shortly!

The original fairy drawing I used Spectrum Noir Markers on cotton paper and I am incredibly happy with the result. If you would like to purchase a print of my gorgeous fairy please visit my etsy shop here: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ChrissyTurleyArtist

Day 12 – 30 days of Art

Practicing the female figure. I haven’t used any reference photos, these are just from my head. I obviously have the proportions right in some but not the others. I think I’ll do a study of the female form shortly. I think that will greatly improve my fairy drawings. The one I finished off today is outta whack a little bit but I’m really happy that I got it down on paper.

I’ve used water colour cotton paper, so the alcohol markers sucked in really quick and I wasn’t able to get a great blend. I’ll have to get some market paper for future marker drawings. I used Spectrum Noir Markers. I really love the colours.

Triathlon training

So I’ve set the date for my first Triathlon. After a swim on Friday, an hour bike ride on saturday, a day of much needed rest on Sunday, I thought it best to give myself a lot of time to do my first sprint triathlon. Although I can do all 3 distances by themselves, I’m slow, it takes it out of me and I seriously doubt I would be able to do any of them by together.

On the 17th of September I will be starting the swim leg of my first triathlon. I’m so excited but I’m also scared as hell. I’ve got a 400m swim, 22ks of biking and a 5K run tot train for. I must remember that I need to give myself enough time to put the appropriate amount of training in. The bike leg scares me the most and I know me. I’ll give myself any excuse not to do it.

My new helmet, it doesn’t really match my bike but at least my head is protected! And I love th colour! Keep up to date with my day to day training and follow me on instagram www.instagram.com/chrissyturley30

Day 11 – 30 Days of Art

Today I’ve been looking in one of my bridal magazines. I’m engaged to a gorgeous and handsome Welsh bloke and we’ve been engaged 2 years now. We still have no date for our wedding but that hasn’t stopped me looking and dreaming about how our perfect wedding will look. 🙂 I love drawing hands. This maybe why I love doing nails so much. Hands can have so much character and they always tell a story of their life.

Of course I’m drawing, sketching and this time using my Spectrum Noir Markers. I haven’t used them much, and the paper I’m using probably isn’t the best for them but, you gotta use what you got sometimes. Drawing people are another skill that needs to be improved upon! But at least I’m no longer afraid to do it. WIN!!!

If you would like to see more of my fairies (they get better, I promise) then follow me on instagram www.instagram.com/chrissyturley30 or have a look at my etsy store https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/ChrissyTurleyArtist

Nail art

Some more cute nail art I’ve done. The Christmas nails are probably part of my all time favourites. I love Christmas, it’s my favourite time of year! Gathering around with the family. Christmas in Australia and the UK are so totally different. In Aussie we wear flip flops and swimmers to a BBQ. More than likely we’ve been swimming at the beach already in the morning. In the UK, obviuously we have the fire going and lots of food in the oven. It’s a lot more stressful in the UK I must say, it’s more of a production. I do miss an Aussie Christmas but dare say once we move home I’ll miss a UK Christmas too!

Day 10 – 30 Days of Art

Flowers! My favourite flowers in the whole world are lilies! I love the different colours. So I thought I might draw a few different types of flowers. I obviously need to work on shading but I like the general shape of them all. While researching flowers I was so surprised at the amount of different kinds of orchids there are,and the different colours they come in! WOW!!

Below, is the start of a portrait I’m doing of my monkeys. It’s my ‘take my time’ piece that I hope to finish. If you’ve been reading my posts then you know faces elude me. So I think this will be a great help for me to improve my skills. I think it’s really important to tackle the things you find the hardest head on. There is no point sticking your head in the sand!

Day 9 – 30 Days of Art

So today I was a little over the place. I couldn’t nail down a theme so I just did a little of everything. A fairy, because I love fairies. Who doesn’t love a pretty fairy? I used water colours to do the wings. It took me a long time to do the face……. my weakest skill… or lack of! My beautiful son, sketched with a 2b pencil. I think the drawing is ok, lots to work on but does actually look a bit like him which is a bonus!

And the northern lights landscape also done in watercolour pencils. They didn’t quite do what I had in my head but I’m starting to get used to using the watercolour pencils. I would love to go and see the northern lights, it’s on my really large list of things and places I want to see and do!

Thanks for reading,
