Triathlete in training.

I’ve always wanted to do a triathlon. Why you ask? Well I’m petrified of riding a bike on the road and I’m terrified of swimming in open water! That’s why. Oh, and I hate running.

I’m tired of not doing something because I’m scared. Now I’m not the kind of crazy that jumps out of a perfectly good plane, that’s just insane. But doing something as simple as riding a bike and not wanting to vomit in panic or piss myself well thats something I should be able to do.

Being an Aussie, swimming is supposed to be in our blood. We live in he water as kids. But for me swimming lessons as a child bring up bad memories. Being forced to swim in front of all sorts of strange people, and being told I’ll never be any good, well it doesn’t really go hand in hand with enjoyable competent swimming. When you’re a teenager, it’s hard being in a tiny little one piece  (that was actually bigger than everyone else’s bikini) is so fucking uncomfortable. I would cry every time we had swimming. Holy shit was I happy when forced swimming lessons were off the cards, it was the only good thing about being in years 11 & 12.

As for bike riding, the activity itself brings back some fabulous memories. From a few of my favourite people and I riding up and down the hills outside their home in Bunya Riverside. To my earliest memory of my brother and father having a race around our back yard in Lislane Street and dad taking the corner to quick and ending up in the garden! But it also brings back that I was always the slowest, always the least confident, always he most scared. Which is strange really because I went on to ride horses for most of my life after the age of 15!

Now as an adult I’m petrified of falling on my face, or embarrassing myself and most of all of failing. Well stuff that from now on in. Here goes everything, jumping in the deep end and it turns out I’m actually good at this swimming malarkey! (Not Olympic good, but good, and I love it!)

Feel the fear and do it anyways,

Day 8 – 30 Days of Art

I love going to the park with my lovely kids. The top paint is an acrylic Painting on paper of the trees in the park. I loved the way the light hit the top of the leaves but the rest of the tree was dark and in shadow. The sky was a such a deep blue blue colour in some areas with only a few clouds. I think trees are one of my favourite things to draw.

The picture below is of the snow and the trees from a beginners art class I joined late last year. It really helped to get me drawing and painting again. Again I love contrast. The white snow and the dark, dark sky and trees.

Art and Tantrums…….

So last night I was practising faces…. and my son had a tantrum because he couldn’t sit and watch me as it was bed time. The poor little tyke was devastated and tired….. very, very tired! He eventually settled down and went to bed.

The things us mums have to do just to get some art practice in! 😂😂😂😂😂 I think I’m getting better at this portrait thing…. what do you reckon?

Day 7 – 30 Days of Art

Some more sketches of some household ‘things’. We have my window in our front window, and an imaginary fireplace (something close to what I would love when we move). The lighthouse is something that I’ve painted before (below) but I wanted it to be a little different. So I’ve done it in watercolour pencil and put a black ball point pen design in the shape of a heart around it. I love harsh lines against something as soft as watercolour.

Train (the band) is what I’m listening to right now and there are a few songs that really get me. Brick by Brick, Marry Me, and Words. They just speak to my present mood and I love singing at the of my lungs in the car when no one can hear!

My new jar took about 5 hours to stick on all those beads and the string. It was totally worth it, my brushes have the perfect pretty home!

P.S I love a good storm! The colour of the sky, the clouds and the sun being chased back.

Early morning bird watching.

When I say early I mean around 7.30….. that’s early enou for me! I’m sitting here, with my coffee pondering what the day is going to bring. I know what needs to be done, but I also know what I want to do. I’m in need of some serious r&r. Watching birds seems to fit the bill. All I need now is for someone to come and drop the kids to school!

We get a number of different birds in our garden but only recently have we been getting the really cute small ones. I’m yet to identify all of them but we’ve seen Magpies, Crows, pigeons, a pair of black birds, house sparrows and a pair of great tits(I think). I particularly like the little green, white and blue one. I need to get a good photo of him.

Day 6 – 30 Days of Art

I decided to sketch a few every day items today and use my favourite colour combo again for a little painting. I’m working on depth, and shading with these pictures. Items in every day life can sometimes be boring but when you try to draw them in real life it’s actually quite difficult. If I’m ever stuck for something to draw I look to what’s around me. There’s always something to draw in the house!

The girl is out of the Next catalogue I just happened to be flicking through during the day. I really loved the back ground and decided to do it in watercolour pencils. Fabric is really hard to do, so I really enjoyed doing the girls dress. Again I’m working on shading and also trying to get the proportions right, which is the hardest thing for me to figure out.
